“Arquitectura sincera, que refleja la pureza de los elementos”
Casa Barro nació con el objetivo de resignificar los métodos tradicionales de construcción y devolverles su lugar en nuestros espacios, diseños y formas de habitar. Es un retorno a los procesos artesanales, impulsado por nuestra convicción de que el lujo del futuro reside en apreciar lo esencial: en una comprensión más respetuosa del tiempo que toma crear, en honrar los procesos que conllevan un desarrollo más lento pero más significativo, en sentirnos más cerca de los lenguajes de la naturaleza y en entender los elementos que nos rodean con mayor sensibilidad.
Con este fin, construimos una vivienda de 240 m² (2.583 pies cuadrados) en un lote de 1 hectárea (2,5 acres), respetando el tamaño de los demás predios del desarrollo. La misión era no ocupar más del 5% del terreno, dejando el área restante para crear una gran reserva de bosque seco tropical. En este entorno, buscábamos que Casa Barro fuera más allá de solo comprender su territorio y medio ambiente; queríamos una arquitectura más auténtica, sincera, viva y humana, que reflejara con éxito la pureza de los elementos.
La casa fue construida no solo por manos artesanales y a través de mingas (jornadas de trabajo comunitario colaborativo) como una forma de reaprender una técnica aparentemente abandonada, sino también en colaboración con diversos artistas colombianos. Cada uno aportó su oficio para crear objetos únicos integrados a la vivienda, reflejando el arte y el diseño de diferentes regiones de Colombia.
Nos mueve el deseo de reconectarnos con la tierra, de volver a untarnos las manos de barro, de construir con propósito y en comunidad, de trabajar de manera colaborativa y de impregnar cultura la obra y cada detalle que convierte a una casa en algo más que una simple estructura: transformándola en el reflejo de una filosofía, una forma de pensar y una postura crítica frente al habitar espacios con sentido.
Casa Barro was born with the objective of resignifying traditional construction methods and restoring their place in our spaces, designs, and ways of living. It is a return to artisanal processes, driven by our belief that the luxury of the future lies in appreciating the essential—in a more respectful understanding of the time it takes to create, in honoring processes that entail a slower but more meaningful development, in feeling closer to the languages of nature, and in understanding the elements around us with greater sensitivity.
To this end, we built a 2,583-square-foot (240 m2) home on a 2.5-acre (1 hectare) lot, matching the size of all the other parcels in this development. The mission was to occupy no more than 5% of the land, leaving the rest to create a large tropical dry forest reserve. Within this setting, we wanted Casa Barro to go beyond simply understanding its territory and environment; we sought an architecture that is more authentic, sincere, alive, and human—one that successfully reflects the purity of the elements.
The house was built not only by artisanal hands and through mingas (collaborative community work sessions) as a way to relearn a seemingly abandoned technique, but also in collaboration with various Colombian artists. Each contributed their craft to create unique objects integrated into the house, reflecting the art and design of different regions of Colombia.
We are driven by the desire to reconnect with the earth, to get our hands back in the mud, to build with purpose and in community, to work collaboratively, and to infuse culture into the construction site and into every detail that makes a house more than just a house—transforming it into the reflection of a philosophy, a mindset, and a critical stance on inhabiting meaningful spaces.
